Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn through Stormblood

Final Fantasy XIV, my current MMO.  I have devoted years of my life to the MMORPG genre, a decade in World of Warcraft, a few years to Aura Kingdom, but this THIS!  This is possibly the best MMO of our time.  It is the highest quality MMO available on the market right now.  I know, it's not free, it has a monthly subscription, but I've played a "free" MMO and spent a LOT more than that on it.  "Free to play" is a lie, and I will gladly pay my sub to keep Final Fantasy going.  This game actually had a rough start.  Version 1.0 was notoriously bad.  I wasn't around for that one, I was still trapped in WoW at the time, but it was bad, people tell me it was bad and I believe it.  So bad, that they took it down, and rebuilt from the ground up.

2.0 is A Realm Reborn, and it's the fully renovated base game.  It's a pretty slow burn, but the world is beautiful, the character models are diverse and well done, the quests are doable, the music is award-winning.  It's a long questline, but it's all good.

3.0 is Heavensward, the first expansion, and I found it infuriating, but infuriating in a good way.  Everything was still good quality, but the story gave me so much anger at the injustice in the plot and things like that.  And it's good to have a story that gives you feels.

4.0 is Stormblood, the second expansion in the game.  It's one of my favorites.  The beginning is pretty sad, but that makes what happens later to be much more satisfying!  By this time, the quest writers really know what they're doing and there's less fluff, more meat, you know?  And the characters specific to this expansion are fantastic.  I love all of them.

I'm into 5.0, Shadowbringers, and I will likely write another review when I complete Shadowbringers and Endwalker, which are both out as of this writing.

Words of advice for newbies:  I recommend going to an older server and finding an older, newbie friendly free company (that's what they call guilds) to join.  It helps loads to have helpful FC members to answer all your questions as you go.  Also, the Final Fantasy players are very good about not spoiling story bits for you, so don't worry about that.  Don't worry about getting enough XP, there's tons of XP to be had, you'll be over-leveled before you finish A Realm Reborn.  The biggest thing, DON'T WORRY.  Don't try to rush to max level, the stories are award-winning, don't skip them.  Oh yeah, and go to the Gold Saucer every Saturday.  It's like a casino/amusement park in-game.  Such a treat!
